DO’s and dont’s for tattoos

A tattoo is a delicate process and experience between the artist and the client. It is most important to be prepared physically, spiritually, and mentally. Due to these variables, there are factors to consider:

DO NOT have an empty stomach. The intensity of the body's stress throughout a Tattoo burns calories and energy. Adrenaline levels and blood sugar are directly affected greatly and very rapidly.

DO eat a healthy meal before your tattoo, ideally within 2-4 hours before your appointment. Be sure to eat starches, and drink orange juice for blood cell replenishment.

DO NOT drink alcohol 24 hours before your appointment. Alcohol is a blood thinner, a depressant, and will dehydrate the body at a much faster state than sweating. Alcohol affects the decision-making process, the skin’s hydration levels, and the blood consistency.

DO remain hydrated and drink 32 ounces of water / electrolyte drinks throughout the 24 hours prior to your appointment. Hydration is key for the vitality and optimization of your skin’s healing process.

DO NOT be stressed or anxious for your Tattoo. This is a fun and exciting new chapter of your life’s journey! If there are any variables throughout the creative design process or application, speak openly and freely with your artist…it is vital to feel comfortable and know you can openly communicate with your artist over any concerns.

DO NOT express shame or embarrassment towards any natural body embellishments. Stretchmarks, hair, acne, wrinkles, cellulite, etc.… it’s all part of life! The human form itself is a work of art and should be loved and celebrated. Our natural accessories just make us more admiring.

DO be excited and confident on the day of your appointment! It’s time to experience the turning of a page to your story and what’s better than getting to show it off on your body for the rest of your life? Have fun with your artist and make it a memorable time.

DO NOT book other appointments or plans close to before or after your Tattoo appointment. A client should never begin the Tattoo process, feeling like it is something they want to rush. The process of stencil application, or re-application, food / bathroom breaks, and other factors may lengthen the appointment time. Tattoos are a slow and lengthy process overall…a permanent application on the body should never be rushed.

DO NOT settle for anything less than perfect. If the design, size, placement or energy of the artist does not fit your needs, there is no obligation to continue the process. Your body is your temple and your expression of your life’s story and should never settle for less than perfection.

DO NOT go on holiday with a fresh or healing Tattoo. If there is a holiday soon after your appointment, a rescheduling may be necessary. (Tattoos are for life, don’t risk a horrible healing for the sake of a photo.)

DO NOT go in the sun or standing water for the first two weeks after your Tattoo appointment. No beaches, hot tubs, swimming pools, or sunbathing when receiving a Tattoo during the summer.

DO maintain proper Tattoo Aftercare for at least the first two weeks post-appointment. Follow the Aftercare tab located at the top of the webpage.

DO NOT request a tattoo while sunburned. The skin is damaged and the ink will reject, reflecting in a scar. Sweating is normal during a Tattoo appointment, so keep in mind the heat when you arrive.

DO keep both your body and skin cleansed and hydrated prior to your appointment. Make sure to take a shower and moisturize the skin as well before your Tattoo session for optimal ink injection.
